Best eSIM for Indonesia and Bali (2026): prices, networks, the Bali levy and arrival forms

Most visitors to Indonesia land in Bali, and many add Lombok, the Gili Islands, Java or Komodo. You’ll use data for ride-hailing, maps, ferries and messaging, often far from hotel Wi-Fi. This guide compares seven travel eSIM providers using only their official pages, and lists the three online steps most visitors face before they land: the arrival declaration, the visa on arrival and, in Bali, the tourist levy.

These Indonesia plans are data-only, with no Indonesian phone number. Keep your home SIM on for bank and app SMS codes.

Why Indonesia is different

Three online forms, all official. Since 1 October 2025 every arriving passenger completes the free All Indonesia declaration. Most visitors also need a visa, which many passports can buy online as an e-Visa on Arrival. And Bali charges foreign tourists a levy of IDR 150,000 (see entry).

A travel eSIM avoids the IMEI step. Indonesian customs says visitors roaming on a foreign SIM don’t need to register their phone’s IMEI. Tourists who buy a local Indonesian SIM do have to register it (see IMEI).

Networks differ by provider. Nomad lists Telkomsel and XLSMART. Airalo names Indosat among its networks, and Ubigi lists Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. Holafly, Saily, Yesim and Maya didn’t name one on the pages we read.

Quick picks

Most trips

A week or two, normal use

A 10 GB / 30-day fixed plan. Ubigi listed $16, Nomad $19 and Yesim $19.20.

No counting

Heavy use or tethering

A week of unlimited data costs $24 from Ubigi. Airalo ($27.00) and Holafly ($27.50) cost more. Maya’s global plan is $19.99.

Telkomsel

Islands and rural areas

Nomad is the only provider here that names Telkomsel, alongside XLSMART. 10 GB for 30 days costs $19; unlimited comes in 5 days ($18) or 10 days ($33).

Long stay

A month or more

Nomad’s 50 GB for 30 days costs $39, the lowest of that size here. For a month of unlimited, Maya’s global plan ($49.99) beats every country plan we found.

Step 1: Size your plan for Indonesia

Maps, ride-hailing, transit apps and messaging use little data. Uploading photos and videos and making video calls use much more. As a rough guide, maps and messaging use hundreds of megabytes a day, while video and video calls can use several gigabytes. These are general estimates, not measurements.

Under a week, maps, messages and transport apps

3–5 GB fixed plan

1–2 weeks, photos, social apps and video

10–20 GB fixed, or unlimited

Remote work from Bali, video calls, tethering a laptop

Unlimited, after checking its fair-use and hotspot rules

Step 2: Compare published prices

Unlimited plans by trip length

15 days$48.00—$51.50$40 (lowest listed)$46.80

Lowest listed price in the row — means no plan of that length was listed. Holafly ($3.90) and Yesim ($4.20) also sell a single day. Maya sells one global unlimited plan at the same price for every country: $9.99 for 3 days, $19.99 for 7, $27.99 for 14 and $49.99 for 30 (see Maya). Official pages, checked 4 November 2026.

Airalo also lists shorter versions (for example 10 GB for 7 days at $19.00). Ubigi also lists 10 GB for 7 days ($14) and 25 GB for 30 days ($28). Yesim also lists 30 GB for $33.60. Official pages, checked 4 November 2026.

Step 3: Check the fine print

  • Networks. Nomad: Telkomsel and XLSMART. Airalo: Indosat and others. Ubigi: Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. Holafly, Saily, Yesim and Maya didn’t name one.
  • Unlimited isn’t always unlimited. Ubigi says data sharing is allowed but a fair-use policy may apply. Holafly’s plans are unlimited by the day. Where it states a hotspot rule (its Canada and Italy pages), sharing is limited to 1 GB a day, so check the plan page if you plan to tether. Airalo’s Indonesia page didn’t state a fair-use limit.
  • Activation windows. Nomad starts a plan automatically 60 days after purchase if you haven’t used it. Yesim and Saily give 180 days. Ubigi’s plan starts when you arrive.
  • No Indonesian number. These plans are data-only. Saily sells an optional US phone number, and Yesim offers a 20-minute calling add-on.

What to watch

A fair-use policy may apply to unlimited plans, and its 30-day unlimited ($59) costs more than Maya’s global plan.

Yesim

Unlimited
$29.407 days; $68.40 for 30

What stands out

What to watch

It doesn’t name a network and hotspot depends on the operator. Its week of unlimited ($29.40) is the highest here.

Maya

One global planAuto-renews
3 days
$9.99unlimited data
7 days
$19.99unlimited data
30 days
$49.99unlimited data

What stands out

The lowest price we found for 3, 7 or 30 days of unlimited data. It’s one global plan, so the same eSIM keeps working if Indonesia is one stop of several. Maya’s page says "No caps, no throttling."

What to watch

It renews automatically while Travel Mode is on, so turn it off when you get home. The page we read doesn’t name the local networks or spell out a fair-use policy, and we haven’t tested the no-throttling claim.

Will your phone work?

  • eSIM-capable and unlocked. Apple lists iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or later. Settings → General → About should say "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock (full checklist).
  • Bought in mainland China? Apple says that in China mainland only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM. Many older mainland models use two physical SIM cards instead, so check for Add eSIM in your settings before you buy a plan.
  • Bought in Hong Kong or Macau? Apple notes that certain iPhone models sold there have two nano-SIM slots. Check for Add eSIM in your settings first.
  • Install before you fly. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and leave the line switched off until you land (install guide).

Phones and the IMEI rule

Indonesia registers phones by IMEI. The customs office at Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport says inbound international roamers using a foreign SIM don’t need to register, which covers travel eSIMs like the ones above. Tourists staying up to 90 days who want to use a local Indonesian SIM register at the operator’s outlet.

Our take

For most trips, Ubigi’s 10 GB for 30 days at $16 is the lowest-cost plan that covers normal use. If you’re heading beyond Bali and want a provider that names Telkomsel, Nomad’s 10 GB is $19. For unlimited, Ubigi’s week is $24, or Maya’s global plan is $19.99. Do the All Indonesia form and the Bali levy online before you land.
