Best eSIM for Greece (2026): prices, Nova and Vodafone, island coverage, and EES

Athens, Santorini, Crete, Mykonos and the Ionian islands: Greek trips mean ferries, island buses and a lot of maps. Prices here vary more than in most of Europe, so the provider matters. This guide compares seven travel eSIM providers using only their official pages, and covers the EU’s new border system.

Greece at a glance

Checked 4 November 2026
Cheapest plan listed
$31 GB / 30 days, Yesim (Airalo: 1 GB / 3 days for $4)
7 days unlimited
$19.99Maya’s global plan; Ubigi’s Greece plan is $22
10 GB for 30 days
$12Ubigi (Nomad: $18)
50 GB for 30 days
$31Nomad (Ubigi: $32)

These Greece plans are data-only, with no local phone number. Keep your home SIM on for bank and app SMS codes.

Why Greece is different

Nova shows up most. Airalo and Ubigi name Nova, and Nomad lists Nova and Vodafone. None of the pages we read named Cosmote, and Holafly, Saily, Yesim and Maya didn’t name a network at all.

Prices are spread wide. 10 GB for 30 days ranges from $12 (Ubigi) to $22.99 (Saily). Airalo, usually mid-priced, is near the top here ($20.00).

Islands mean ferries. Coverage at sea and on small islands can drop, so keep tickets and maps offline.

Quick picks

Most trips

A week or two, normal use

A 10 GB / 30-day plan. Ubigi listed $12, well below Nomad ($18) and Yesim ($19.20).

No counting

Heavy use or tethering

Maya’s global plan is $19.99 a week and $49.99 for 30 days, lower than any Greece plan. Ubigi is next ($22 a week).

Lots of data

Photos, video, a long summer

Nomad’s 50 GB for 30 days at $31 and 20 GB at $21 are the lowest of those sizes here, on Nova and Vodafone.

Greece and beyond

Italy, Turkey or the Balkans

A Europe plan may be simpler; check that every country on your route is listed. Turkey has its own guide.

Step 1: Size your plan for Greece

Maps, ride-hailing, transit apps and messaging use little data. Uploading photos and videos and making video calls use much more. As a rough guide, maps and messaging use hundreds of megabytes a day, while video and video calls can use several gigabytes. These are general estimates, not measurements.

Under a week, maps, messages and transport apps

3–5 GB fixed plan

1–2 weeks, photos, social apps and video

10–20 GB fixed, or unlimited

Remote work, video calls, tethering a laptop

Unlimited, after checking its fair-use and hotspot rules

Lowest listed price in the row — means no plan of that length was listed. Holafly ($3.90) and Yesim ($4.20) also sell a single day. Maya sells one global unlimited plan at the same price for every country: $9.99 for 3 days, $19.99 for 7, $27.99 for 14 and $49.99 for 30 (see Maya). Official pages, checked 4 November 2026.

Airalo also lists shorter versions (for example 10 GB for 7 days at $19.00). Ubigi also lists 10 GB for 7 days ($10) and 25 GB for 30 days ($22). Yesim also lists 30 GB for $33.60. One country, or several?

Plans on this page are sold for Greece. If your trip crosses borders, a Europe plan can be simpler: Airalo listed 15 days of unlimited Europe data for $49.00 and Holafly $51.50 (see our Europe guide). EU “roam like at home” rules apply to SIMs from EU operators; check each provider’s coverage list rather than assuming a single-country plan works next door.

Step 3: Check the fine print

  • Networks. Airalo: Nova. Nomad: Nova and Vodafone. Ubigi: Nova. The others didn’t name one.
  • Unlimited isn’t always unlimited. Ubigi says a fair-use policy may apply. Holafly’s Greece page didn’t state a hotspot limit; on pages where it does, sharing is 1 GB a day.
  • Activation windows. Nomad starts a plan automatically 60 days after purchase if you haven’t used it. Saily says all plans have a 180-day activation period; after that the plan starts automatically. Ubigi’s plan starts when you arrive.
  • Hotspot. Yesim says hotspot depends on the operator, and gives 180 days from purchase to activate.
  • No local number. These plans are data-only. Saily sells an optional US phone number, and Yesim offers a 20-minute calling add-on.

$49.99unlimited data

What stands out

The lowest price we found for 3, 7 or 30 days of unlimited data, and one plan if Greece is one stop of several. It’s one global plan, so the same eSIM keeps working if Greece is one stop of several. Maya’s page says "No caps, no throttling."

What to watch

It renews automatically while Travel Mode is on, so turn it off when you get home. The page we read doesn’t name the local networks or spell out a fair-use policy, and we haven’t tested the no-throttling claim.

Will your phone work?

  • eSIM-capable and unlocked. Apple lists iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or later. Settings → General → About should say "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock (full checklist).
  • Bought in mainland China? Apple says that in China mainland only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM. Many older mainland models use two physical SIM cards instead, so check for Add eSIM in your settings before you buy a plan.
  • Bought in Hong Kong or Macau? Apple notes that certain iPhone models sold there have two nano-SIM slots. Check for Add eSIM in your settings first.
  • Install before you fly. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and leave the line switched off until you land (install guide).

Entry: EES now, ETIAS later

The Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at Schengen external borders since 10 April 2026. If you’re a non-EU visitor on a short stay, your first crossing records a face image and four fingerprints (children under 12 give no fingerprints). It’s free, and there’s nothing to apply for in advance. Allow extra time at the border on your first trip.

ETIAS, the travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, isn’t operating yet, according to the EU’s official Travel to Europe site. You can’t apply for it, and you don’t need it to visit Greece today.

Don’t pay for ETIAS yet

Some websites already sell “ETIAS applications”. ETIAS isn’t running, and EES is free, so you don’t need to pay anyone for either.

Our take

For most trips, Ubigi’s 10 GB for $12 is the best value. If you’ll use a lot of data, Nomad’s 20 GB ($21) or 50 GB ($31) is cheaper than any unlimited plan, and Maya is the cheapest true unlimited.

Before you fly

  1. Decide: Greece or Europe

If you’re visiting more than one country, compare a Europe plan before buying a single-country one.

  2. Buy and install at home

Check your phone is unlocked and eSIM-capable (how to check), then install on Wi-Fi before departure. With Nomad, don’t buy more than 60 days ahead.

  3. Switch on when you land

Turn on the travel line, enable data roaming for that line, and set it as your mobile-data line.

  4. Save ferry tickets offline

Keep ferry tickets, hotel addresses and island maps offline: signal can drop at sea.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the cheapest Greece eSIM?

Airalo and Ubigi name Nova; Nomad lists Nova and Vodafone. None we read named Cosmote, and Holafly, Saily, Yesim and Maya didn’t name a network.

Will my eSIM work on the Greek islands?

A Greece plan covers the islands, but signal varies at sea and in remote spots. Keep ferry tickets and maps offline.

What’s the cheapest unlimited eSIM for Greece?

Maya’s global plan: $19.99 for 7 days and $49.99 for 30. Among Greece plans, Ubigi was lowest ($22 a week).
