Switzerland at a glance
Checked 4 November 2026- Cheapest plan listed
- $31 GB / 30 days, Yesim (Ubigi: 3 GB / 30 days for $4)
- 7 days unlimited
- $19Ubigi (Maya’s global plan: $19.99)
- 10 GB for 30 days
- $9Ubigi, then a jump to $19.20 (Yesim)
- Not in the EU
- EU “roam like at home” doesn’t cover Switzerland
These Switzerland plans are data-only, with no local phone number. Keep your home SIM on for bank and app SMS codes.
Why Switzerland is different
EU roaming rules stop at the border. The European Commission says “roam like at home” covers the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; countries outside the EU/EEA aren’t covered, though some operators extend it. If you have a SIM from an EU operator, check its Switzerland rates before you go.
Salt and Sunrise dominate this list. Nomad, Saily and Ubigi list Salt and Sunrise, and Airalo names Sunrise. None of the pages we read named Swisscom.
One provider is far cheaper. Ubigi’s 10 GB for 30 days costs $9; the next cheapest is $19.20.
Quick picks
A week or two, normal use
Ubigi’s 10 GB for 30 days at $9, on Salt and Sunrise, under half what most providers here charge.
Heavy use or tethering
A week of unlimited is $19 from Ubigi or $19.99 on Maya’s global plan. For 30 days Maya ($49.99) is cheaper than Ubigi ($58).
Cross-border commuters and repeat trips
Ubigi sells year-long plans: 24 GB over 12 months for $14 (2 GB a month) and 60 GB for $34 (5 GB a month).
France, Italy, Germany or Austria
Check that a Europe plan lists Switzerland: it’s not in the EU, so coverage lists differ.
Step 1: Size your plan for Switzerland
Maps, ride-hailing, transit apps and messaging use little data. Uploading photos and videos and making video calls use much more. As a rough guide, maps and messaging use hundreds of megabytes a day, while video and video calls can use several gigabytes. These are general estimates, not measurements.
Under a week, maps, messages and transport apps
3–5 GB fixed plan
1–2 weeks, photos, social apps and video
10–20 GB fixed, or unlimited
Remote work, video calls, tethering a laptop
Unlimited, after checking its fair-use and hotspot rules
Step 2: Compare published prices
Unlimited plans by trip length
| Days | Airalo | Nomad | Holafly | Ubigi | Yesim |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days | $11.50 | $11 (lowest listed) | $11.90 | — | $12.60 |
| 5 days | $18.00 (lowest listed) | $18 (lowest listed) | $20.50 | — | $21.00 |
| 7 days | $25.00 | $25 | $27.50 | $19 (lowest listed) | $29.40 |
| 10 days | $34.00 | $33 (lowest listed) | $37.50 | — | $35.93 |
| 15 days | $46.00 | — | $51.50 | $35 (lowest listed) | $46.80 |
| 30 days | $68.00 | — | $76.50 | $58 (lowest listed) | $68.40 |
Lowest listed price in the row — means no plan of that length was listed. Holafly ($3.90) and Yesim ($4.20) also sell a single day. Maya sells one global unlimited plan at the same price for every country: $9.99 for 3 days, $19.99 for 7, $27.99 for 14 and $49.99 for 30 (see Maya). Official pages, checked 4 November 2026.
Fixed-data plans

| 3 GB | $9.007 days | $930 days | $9.9930 days | $430 days (lowest listed) | — |

| 50 GB | $45.0030 days | $4330 days | — | $3830 days (lowest listed) | — |
Lowest listed price in the row Validity differs, so compare the small print as well as the price. Where a provider sells the same data amount for several lengths, we show the longest. Airalo also lists shorter versions (for example 10 GB for 7 days at $21.50). Ubigi also lists 10 GB for 7 days ($7), 25 GB for 30 days ($22), 100 GB for 360 days ($78), and 24 GB ($14) or 60 GB ($34) over 12 months. Yesim also lists 30 GB for $33.60. Official pages, checked 4 November 2026.
One country, or several?
Plans on this page are sold for Switzerland. If your trip crosses borders, a Europe plan can be simpler: Airalo listed 15 days of unlimited Europe data for $49.00 and Holafly $51.50 (see our Europe guide). EU “roam like at home” rules apply to SIMs from EU operators; check each provider’s coverage list rather than assuming a single-country plan works next door.
Step 3: Check the fine print
- Networks. Nomad, Saily and Ubigi: Salt and Sunrise. Airalo: Sunrise. Holafly, Yesim and Maya didn’t name one.
- Unlimited isn’t always unlimited. Ubigi says a fair-use policy may apply. Holafly’s Switzerland page didn’t state a hotspot limit; on pages where it does, sharing is 1 GB a day.
- Activation windows. Nomad starts a plan automatically 60 days after purchase if you haven’t used it. Saily says all plans have a 180-day activation period; after that the plan starts automatically. Ubigi’s plan starts when you arrive.
- Hotspot. Yesim says hotspot depends on the operator, and gives 180 days from purchase to activate.
- No local number. These plans are data-only. Saily sells an optional US phone number, and Yesim offers a 20-minute calling add-on.

Ubigi
- Switzerland from
- $43 GB / 30 days
- 10 GB / 30 days
- $9
- Unlimited
- $197 days; $35 for 15; $58 for 30

What to watch
Its 30-day unlimited ($58) costs more than Maya’s, and a fair-use policy may apply.
Yesim
- Switzerland from
- $3.001 GB / 30 days
- 10 GB / 30 days
- $19.20
- Unlimited
- $29.407 days; $68.40 for 30
What stands out
1 GB for 30 days at $3.00 and the second-cheapest 10 GB ($19.20).
What to watch
No network named, and hotspot depends on the operator.
Maya
- 3 days
- $9.99unlimited data
- 7 days
- $19.99unlimited data
- 30 days
- $49.99unlimited data
What stands out
The lowest price we found for 3 or 30 days of unlimited data, and $19.99 for a week, a dollar more than Ubigi. It’s one global plan, so the same eSIM keeps working if Switzerland is one stop of several. Maya’s page says "No caps, no throttling."
What to watch
It renews automatically while Travel Mode is on, so turn it off when you get home. The page we read doesn’t name the local networks or spell out a fair-use policy, and we haven’t tested the no-throttling claim.
Will your phone work?
- eSIM-capable and unlocked. Apple lists iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or later. Settings → General → About should say "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock (full checklist).
- Bought in mainland China? Apple says that in China mainland only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM. Many older mainland models use two physical SIM cards instead, so check for Add eSIM in your settings before you buy a plan.
- Bought in Hong Kong or Macau? Apple notes that certain iPhone models sold there have two nano-SIM slots. Check for Add eSIM in your settings first.
- Install before you fly. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and leave the line switched off until you land (install guide).
Switzerland and EU roaming
If your home SIM is from an EU operator, “roam like at home” is what normally keeps roaming free in Europe. The European Commission lists where it applies: the 27 EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Switzerland isn’t on that list. Some operators include it anyway, so check your own tariff; if they don’t, a travel eSIM avoids surprise charges.
Border towns
Day trips can cross borders without you noticing: Geneva to France, Basel to Germany or France, Lugano to Italy. If you’re on a Switzerland-only plan, it may not work on the other side.
Entry: EES now, ETIAS later
The Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at Schengen external borders since 10 April 2026. If you’re a non-EU visitor on a short stay, your first crossing records a face image and four fingerprints (children under 12 give no fingerprints). It’s free, and there’s nothing to apply for in advance. Allow extra time at the border on your first trip.
ETIAS, the travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, isn’t operating yet, according to the EU’s official Travel to Europe site. You can’t apply for it, and you don’t need it to visit Switzerland today.
Don’t pay for ETIAS yet
Some websites already sell “ETIAS applications”. ETIAS isn’t running, and EES is free, so you don’t need to pay anyone for either.
Our take
For most trips, Ubigi’s 10 GB for 30 days at $9 is hard to beat, on Salt and Sunrise. For unlimited, Ubigi ($19) and Maya ($19.99) are neck and neck for a week; Maya is cheaper for a month.

Before you fly
Decide: Switzerland or Europe
If you’re visiting more than one country, compare a Europe plan before buying a single-country one.
Buy and install at home
Check your phone is unlocked and eSIM-capable (how to check), then install on Wi-Fi before departure. With Nomad, don’t buy more than 60 days ahead.
Switch on when you land
Turn on the travel line, enable data roaming for that line, and set it as your mobile-data line.
Keep tickets offline
Save train and cable-car tickets offline; mountain valleys and tunnels can drop signal.

What’s the cheapest Switzerland eSIM?
On the official pages we checked (4 November 2026), 1 GB started at $3.00 (Yesim, 30 days). For 10 GB over 30 days, Ubigi listed $9.
Does EU roaming work in Switzerland?
Not by law. The European Commission says “roam like at home” covers the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; some operators extend it to other countries, so check your tariff.
Which network do Switzerland travel eSIMs use?
Nomad, Saily and Ubigi list Salt and Sunrise; Airalo names Sunrise. None we read named Swisscom.
Does a Europe eSIM cover Switzerland?
Often, but not always: check the provider’s country list before you buy, because Switzerland isn’t in the EU.
Is Switzerland part of EES?
Yes. Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so the Entry/Exit System applies at its external borders, such as Zurich or Geneva airport for a flight from outside Schengen.
