Why Macau is different
Hutchison is leaving. Macau’s telecoms regulator, CTT, says Hutchison will cease all mobile services in Macau from 1 December 2026, with its users moving to CTM. Airalo’s Macau page lists Hutchison as its network, so check what Airalo shows before buying for a December trip. Nomad lists CTM and Ubigi lists China Telecom (see the Hutchison shutdown).
Small plans are very cheap. 10 GB for 30 days costs $14 to $16 at four providers, and 1 GB starts under $4. Unless you’re streaming all day, you don’t need unlimited for a short visit.
Macau has its own border. It’s a Special Administrative Region with its own immigration controls, so a trip from Hong Kong or mainland China means passing through immigration (see getting in and around).
Quick picks
From Hong Kong or Zhuhai
Saily’s 1 GB for 7 days ($3.99), or Holafly’s single unlimited day ($3.90).
Normal use
Nomad’s 10 GB for $14 on CTM, or 20 GB for $20 valid for 45 days.
Heavy use or tethering
Maya’s global plan: $19.99 a week, $49.99 for 30 days. Among Macau plans, Ubigi ($26 a week) and Airalo ($72.50 for 30 days) are lowest.
One trip, three regions
Read our China and Hong Kong guides: mainland China needs a plan that works with Google, WhatsApp and Gmail.
Step 1: Size your plan for Macau
Maps, ride-hailing, transit apps and messaging use little data. Uploading photos and videos and making video calls use much more. As a rough guide, maps and messaging use hundreds of megabytes a day, while video and video calls can use several gigabytes. These are general estimates, not measurements.
Under a week, maps, messages and transport apps
3–5 GB fixed plan
1–2 weeks, photos, social apps and video
10–20 GB fixed, or unlimited
Remote work, video calls, tethering a laptop
Unlimited, after checking its fair-use and hotspot rules
Step 2: Compare published prices
Unlimited plans by trip length
| Days | Airalo | Holafly | Ubigi | Yesim |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days | $11.50 (lowest listed) | $11.90 | — | — |
| 5 days | $19.50 (lowest listed) | $20.50 | — | — |
| 7 days | $27.00 | $27.50 | $26 (lowest listed) | $48.00 |
| 10 days | $35.00 (lowest listed) | $37.50 | — | — |
| 15 days | $49.00 (lowest listed) | $51.50 | $49 (lowest listed) | $78.00 |
| 30 days | $72.50 (lowest listed) | $76.50 | — | $106.80 |
Lowest listed price in the row — means no plan of that length was listed. Holafly ($3.90) and Yesim ($12.00) also sell a single day. Nomad and Saily don’t sell unlimited plans for Macau. Ubigi doesn’t sell a 30-day unlimited plan. Maya sells one global unlimited plan at the same price for every country: $9.99 for 3 days, $19.99 for 7, $27.99 for 14 and $49.99 for 30 (see Maya). Official pages, checked 4 November 2026.
Fixed-data plans
| Data | Airalo | Nomad | Saily | Ubigi | Yesim |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | $4.003 days | $47 days | $3.997 days | — | $3.4830 days (lowest listed) |
| 3 GB | $7.007 days | $830 days | $6.9930 days (lowest listed) | $815 days | $18.0030 days |

| 20 GB | $23.0030 days | $2045 days (lowest listed) | $22.9930 days | — | — |
| 50 GB | $49.0030 days | $4545 days (lowest listed) | — | — | — |
Lowest listed price in the row Validity differs, so compare the small print as well as the price. Where a provider sells the same data amount for several lengths, we show the longest. Nomad’s 20 GB and 50 GB plans last 45 days. Airalo also lists shorter versions (for example 10 GB for 7 days at $15.00). Ubigi also lists 10 GB for 7 days ($14) and 25 GB for 30 days ($29). Yesim lists only 1, 3, 5 and 10 GB. Official pages, checked 4 November 2026.
Step 3: Check the fine print
- Networks. Airalo: Hutchison (closing 1 December 2026). Nomad: CTM. Ubigi: China Telecom. Holafly, Saily, Yesim and Maya didn’t name one.
- Unlimited isn’t always unlimited. Ubigi says a fair-use policy may apply. Holafly’s Macau page didn’t state a hotspot limit; on pages where it does, sharing is 1 GB a day.
- Activation windows. Nomad starts a plan automatically 60 days after purchase if you haven’t used it. Saily says all plans have a 180-day activation period; after that the plan starts automatically. Ubigi’s plan starts when you arrive.
- Hotspot. Yesim says hotspot depends on the operator, and gives 180 days from purchase to activate.
- No local number. These plans are data-only. Saily sells an optional US phone number, and Yesim offers a 20-minute calling add-on.

Yesim
- Macau from

The cheapest entry price: 1 GB for 30 days at $3.48.
What to watch
Everything else is expensive here: 10 GB is $54.00 and a week of unlimited $48.00.
Maya
- 3 days
- $9.99unlimited data
- 7 days
- $19.99unlimited data
- 30 days
- $49.99unlimited data
What stands out
The lowest price we found for 3, 7 or 30 days of unlimited data. It’s one global plan, so the same eSIM keeps working if Macau is one stop of several. Maya’s page says "No caps, no throttling."
What to watch
It renews automatically while Travel Mode is on, so turn it off when you get home. The page we read doesn’t name the local networks or spell out a fair-use policy, and we haven’t tested the no-throttling claim.
Will your phone work?
- eSIM-capable and unlocked. Apple lists iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or later. Settings → General → About should say "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock (full checklist).
- Bought in mainland China? Apple says that in China mainland only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM. Many older mainland models use two physical SIM cards instead, so check for Add eSIM in your settings before you buy a plan.
- Bought in Hong Kong or Macau? Apple notes that certain iPhone models sold there have two nano-SIM slots. Check for Add eSIM in your settings first.
- Install before you fly. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and leave the line switched off until you land (install guide).
The Hutchison shutdown: what it means
On 15 September 2026, CTT announced that Hutchison Telecommunications (Macao) will surrender its 4G licence and cease all mobile services in Macau from 1 December 2026. Hutchison has agreed with CTM to move its users to CTM’s network, and will keep basic services running during the transition.
Travelling in December or later?
Airalo listed Hutchison as its Macau network on 4 November 2026. If you’re travelling on or after 1 December, check which network Airalo shows before buying, or choose Nomad (CTM) or Ubigi (China Telecom). We’ll update this guide when Airalo changes its listing.
Getting in and around
- Own immigration. GOV.UK says Macau is part of China but has its own immigration controls. British visitors can stay up to 6 months without a visa; other nationalities should check Macau’s Immigration Department.
- Passport. For British visitors, GOV.UK says it must be valid for at least 90 days after you leave Macau.
- Going on to mainland China? That’s a separate border. See our 240-hour transit and visa-free entry guide.
- From Hong Kong airport. MGTO says TurboJET runs ferries from the airport’s SkyPier, and cross-boundary buses run to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge port.
| Getting around | What MGTO says |
|---|---|
| Buses | MOP6.00 a ride, no change given; Macau Pass works on all public transport |
| Light Rapid Transit | Taipa, Seac Pai Van and Hengqin lines (East Line under construction) |
| Taxis | MOP21.00 for the first 1,600 m; MOP8.00 surcharge at the airport, Taipa Ferry Terminal and bridge port |
| Hotel shuttles | Many hotels run shuttle buses from the airport |

Our take
For most visits, Nomad’s 10 GB for $14 on CTM is the best value and avoids the Hutchison question. For a day trip, Saily ($3.99) or Holafly ($3.90 a day) is enough. If Macau is one stop on a longer China trip, read our China guide before buying.

Before you fly
Check the network
Travelling on or after 1 December 2026? Make sure your plan doesn’t rely only on Hutchison.
Buy and install at home
Check your phone is unlocked and eSIM-capable (how to check), then install on Wi-Fi before departure. With Nomad, don’t buy more than 60 days ahead.
Switch on when you land
Turn on the travel line, enable data roaming for that line, and set it as your mobile-data line.
Get a Macau Pass
Buses don’t give change, so a Macau Pass saves digging for coins.

What’s the cheapest Macau eSIM?
On the official pages we checked (4 November 2026), Yesim’s 1 GB for 30 days was $3.48 and Saily’s 1 GB for 7 days $3.99. For 10 GB over 30 days, Nomad listed $14.
Is Hutchison shutting down in Macau?
Yes. CTT says Hutchison will cease all mobile services in Macau from 1 December 2026, and its users will move to CTM.
Which network do Macau travel eSIMs use?
Airalo lists Hutchison, Nomad lists CTM and Ubigi lists China Telecom. Holafly, Saily, Yesim and Maya didn’t name one.
Does a Hong Kong eSIM work in Macau?
Only if the plan lists Macau. Hong Kong and Macau are separate destinations for most providers, so check the coverage list or buy a Macau or regional plan.
Do I need a visa for Macau?
Many nationalities don’t. GOV.UK says British visitors can stay up to 6 months without a visa. Macau has its own immigration controls, separate from mainland China.
